Whale Watching Boat Trip: A Paradise for Whale and Dolphin Watchers

Whale Watching Boat Trip: A Paradise for Whale and Dolphin Watchers

La Palma offers not only breathtaking landscapes on land but also a unique experience on the water: whale and dolphin watching. The waters around the island are home to a variety of whale species, including pilot whales, fin whales, short-finned pilot whales, and dolphins. With a bit of luck, you may even spot the majestic blue whales—the largest marine mammals in the world!

The best chances to observe these impressive creatures in their natural habitat are between May and September. Particularly near Puerto Naos, dolphins and whales are often seen swimming in small pods along the coast. Sei whales are regular visitors, and sometimes you can even see mother whales with their calves swimming northward at dawn and returning in the evening.

One especially extraordinary event was the sighting of a sperm whale off Playa Chica in Puerto Naos, attempting to shake off a piece of net caught on its fluke. Such encounters are rare but show how close you can get to these impressive creatures.

For those who prefer not to take a boat tour, there are also excellent land-based viewing opportunities. At La Palma Airport, just after check-in, a large window offers a perfect view of the sea, where sei whales can often be seen playing near the shore.

Whale and dolphin watching in La Palma is not only a visual spectacle but also an experience deeply connected to respect for nature and the protection of the marine environment. We operate in a sustainable manner to ensure that the animals in their natural habitat are not disturbed.
