Surrounded by lush gardens, birdsong and fresh mountain air, Casa Nicol is a lovingly restored country house on the green west side of La Palma. Nestled above the tranquil village of El Jesús in the municipality of Tijarafe, this charming holiday cottage offers a perfect retreat for nature lovers, hikers, families, and couples alike.
The house comfortably accommodates up to 4 persons and a baby, features two spacious bedrooms of equal size, and welcomes pets upon request – ideal for those who want to bring their dog on holiday. While the house doesn’t have a pool, it offers a fenced plot with a garden and sunbathing lawn, stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, and plenty of privacy.
A Traditional Canarian Home with Rustic Charm and Modern Comforts
Casa Nicol has been family-owned for generations and was tastefully renovated to preserve the charm of the original architecture while offering guests modern conveniences.
Inside, you’ll find 85 m² of cozy living space with warm wood elements throughout – including the traditional Canarian gabled wooden ceilings, which create a homely and comfortable atmosphere in every room.
The living room invites you to relax with a sofa and armchair, flat-screen satellite TV, and a fireplace that warms the house during cooler evenings (firewood available for a small fee). There’s also WiFi internet access for workation or streaming.
Well-Equipped Kitchen with Garden Access
The fitted kitchenette is part of the open-plan living and dining area. A charming wooden counter separates the cooking space, which includes a 3-ring ceramic hob, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, and blender – everything you need to prepare a delicious meal with local produce. A large fridge-freezer is placed in the hallway for your convenience.
From here, step directly out onto the garden terrace and enjoy al fresco dining or fire up the grill in the backyard for fresh fish or vegetables from the nearby market or garden.
Two Bedrooms with Storage and Garden Views
Located at the rear of the house are two spacious bedrooms:
- One bedroom with two single beds (0.90 x 2.00 m), ideal for friends or children
- One bedroom with a double bed (1.50 x 2.00 m) and direct access to the terrace
Both rooms are fitted with large built-in wardrobes, so there’s ample space for your travel wardrobe.
A modern bathroom with shower, wash basin and toilet is also found at the back of the house.
A Highlight: The Spacious, Covered Terrace with Sea View
One of the most loved features of Casa Nicol is the roofed terrace with its long wooden dining table – perfect for sunset dinners, morning coffees, or relaxing afternoons with a good book. Here, you’ll enjoy the peaceful surroundings, the scent of blooming flowers, and a panoramic view of the west coast and the Atlantic Ocean.
The garden is beautifully maintained, with colorful flowers, a small sunbathing lawn and shaded spots to retreat to on warm days. Behind the house, the owners grow vegetables, and the entire property is fenced and private – an added bonus for guests with children or dogs.
A Perfect Base for Hikers and Island Explorers
Casa Nicol lies in a region known for its mild climate, green landscapes, and excellent hiking opportunities. The nearby Barranco de las Angustias is ideal for walks, and you can hike from the house down to Puerto de Tazacorte for a dip in the ocean and a fresh seafood lunch.
Also within reach is the island’s highest point, Roque de los Muchachos, with its famous observatories and spectacular views – about 45 to 60 minutes by car.
The house is best accessed by rental car, and parking is available directly at the property.
